The CAMP project is a twining study between Nigeria and Canada
Dr. Qamar Mahmood, Senior Program Manager at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), one of the key funders of the Canadian-African MPox Partnership (CAMP) project, visited the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) for a site visit to assess the project’s progress.
He was warmly received by Prof. John Obafunwa, Director-General of the Institute, alongside Prof. Rosemary Audu, the Nigerian Principal Investigator, and other team members.
Dr. Qamar was impressed by the team’s significant accomplishments and commended them for their hard work over the past two years.
He also embarked on a laboratory tour within the institute.
The CAMP project aims to characterize transmission dynamics and evaluate medical countermeasures to inform clinical and public health responses to MPox in Canada and Nigeria.
The Nigerian team, led by Prof. Audu, presented a progress report highlighting successes, challenges, and future directions. They also advocated for continued support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and other funders.
He left with an assurance of supplementary funding and informed the team about other funding opportunities.
